Description:

Purpose:

This position will be a member of the SQL Server team in Database

Services. Database Services is responsible for the architecture, design,

implementation, and support of the global International Paper database

environment. Our SQL Server environments are considered an enterprise,

strategic platform that directly enables applications utilized by many

to implementing new systems as well as the overall availability,

performance, and maintenance for the SQL Server environment.

Key Accountabilities:

This position will require:

- The external environment, including technology, competition,

This position will encounter external challenges with different tools,

storage devices, and operating systems used in supporting our databases.

On average, database software vendors de-support older versions every

three years. As new database software releases are publicly available,

expectations of acquired skills needed to support these new releases in

a production state, will be required. The expected time frame in which

these expectations to occur will be by the second minor patch level with

each major release.

Example: International Paper would expect its staff to fully support

SQL Server 2005 in a production state by the time Service Pack 2 is

released.

Therefore, the person fulfilling this position should be skilled in the

competency of ‘self development’ and ‘action oriented’. They must be

committed and actively seeking to improve their knowledge and

understanding of changing technologies.

- The internal environment, including interaction with others,

requires skills in effectively dealing with ambiguity.

2. After hour support will be required.

3. On call rotation of support will be required.

4. Documentation of best practice tips and publicly publishing these

documents will be required.

5. Customer Focus, maintaining an average Survey Score of 5.2 or

greater.

6. Training and Mentoring of other team members will be required.

- The work itself, e.g., problems, opportunities, change:

This position requires an ability to adapt well to personnel,

environmental, and technological changes.

Additionally, this position will require documenting ‘lessons learned’

and publishing to Database Services’ common document repository.

Certain administrative activities will be required throughout each year.

Annual objectives, career and development work plans, email

correspondence, time tracking, management and team leader requests will

occur. This position will require timely attention and adherence to

these processes and requests.

Planned and unplanned project type work will occur. Each employee will

be expected to fulfill the tasks assigned to each employee for all

approved projects that involve Database Services.

These three areas (above) provide opportunities for each employee to

demonstrate their abilities. Considerations for career advancements,

merit increases, and recognition will be based on the repetitive

performance in these areas.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or related area

Production Environment.

• Version 2008 R2 - Preferred
