This position supports International Paper’s Columbus Modified Fiber Plant (CMF), located in Columbus, Mississippi. CMF is a vital part of International Paper’s Global Cellulose Fibers Business. We are a converting operation that produces specialty fibers used in the production of diapers and other absorbent personal care products.

The Plant’s Production Manager provides leadership, coordination, and competencies that guide the manufacturing team and processes in the area of safety, quality/customer satisfaction, productivity, housekeeping, cost effectiveness, and people systems; while promoting continuous improvement and the use of reliable methods within the manufacturing organization. The Production Manager is responsible for the development and achievement of the manufacturing business plan and overall cost effectiveness of the manufacturing operation.

Accountabilities include but are not limited to:

  • Take full accountability and responsibility for both conditions of the workplace and behaviors of all team members.

  • Set clear expectations for an injury-free workplace and empower team members to meet those expectations.

  • Ensure that all manufacturing processes operate in accordance with EPA regulations and anticipate process impacts on environmental performance.

  • Monitor and direct the performance of all manufacturing activities including throughput, cost and waste control, maintenance, quality, inventories control, and meeting budgeted production metrics.

  • Lead compliance with Quality Assurance Key Elements (QAKE) 9- Making Operations, 10- Packing Operations and 11- Storage and Handling of Finished Product.

  • Know internal and external customer requirements and be a champion for delivering those requirements.

  • Ensure all teams are equipped and trained to deliver external customer requirements.

  • Ensure plant integration to key principles of Manufacturing Work System (MWS).

  • Ensures that significant reliability events have timely and effective root cause analysis and have the appropriate corrective actions to prevent future failures.

  • Responsible for leading, coaching, motivating and engaging work teams to accomplish operational objectives.

  • Ensure a clear and consistent story is developed from each weekly Mill Performance Review and key messages are effectively provided to all team members.

  • Develop an effective strategy for one-to-one exchanges with all operations technicians per the People Element of the Global Manufacturing System.

  • Champion the effective use of MyView and other company tools for engagement.

  • Actively involved in the development of team members through training, coaching, and performance review feedback.

  • Help teams function with behaviors consistent with HPWS principles and CMF work system design.

Required Qualifications:

  • BS/BA in related field or equivalent experience

  • 10+ Years of industry experience

  • Honest, predictable, and consistent

  • Highly effective communicator (verbal and written)

  • Demonstrated commitment to safety (models and promotes safe work behaviors)

  • Manufacturing operations work experience with extensive knowledge and skills in leading safe, reliable, cost effective production or maintenance processes

  • Able to engage the workforce and support change to meet business needs

  • Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills

  • Self-motivated (displays initiative in identifying and completing tasks)

  • Sustained performance level over time

  • Able to analyze problems and develop solutions independently and/or with teams

  • Effective decision making skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years’ experience working for International Paper

  • Successful experience working in a global, demanding customer relationship
