Provide leadership and direction for all technical aspects of Application hosting services to effectively support International Paper’s business strategy. This includes systems such as: SharePoint 2010 and 2016, IIS, DNS, WebLogic and Apache.

The primary responsibilities, actions and outputs include:

  • Define, implement, and monitor processes to improve operational efficiency.

  • Deliver world class SharePoint, IIS, WebLogic and other hosting services under minimal supervision while providing a stable, reliable, functional, secure hosting environment.

  • Maintain the availability, reliability, performance, monitoring, and security of the enterprise application environment.

  • Collaborate with other support teams to provide management of operational processes (backups, recovery, disaster recovery, application scalability, capacity planning).

  • Collaborate with other support groups to implement and enforce policies and procedures.

  • Develop and facilitate process changes related to the technical infrastructure, operations, and basis administration regarding best practices, policies, and education.

  • Mentor junior team members by answering technical and procedural questions and teaching improved processes.

  • Work with a variety of IT stakeholders to analyze the current application hosting architecture and provide implementation plans for upgrades and deployments.

  • Analyze, recommend, and collaborate on the architecture and integration in order to provide input to the application product roadmap.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Implement operational capabilities to meet the needs of the organization for SharePoint applications and solutions.

  • Provide customers with a stable, secure and recoverable SharePoint environment.

  • Define and develop metrics for application hosting availability.

  • Maintain technical standards, procedures, and techniques for the resolution of system problems to ensure maximum system availability and performance levels.

  • Ensure appropriate technical and operational documentation exists and is current.

  • Consult and provide technical direction for application hosting projects including:

  • Upgrades and Patches.

  • Validate that technical solutions meet operational, security, quality, and performance standards.

  • Determine technical feasibility of implementing solutions within the existing infrastructure.

  • Participate in evaluation and risk assessment of third party components and packages.

  • Develop and train team members on technical aspects of new technical solutions.

  • Develop consistency in technical processes.

  • Build knowledge of support processes.

  • Recommend and implement changes to the operational management strategy for the hosting environment.

  • Implement operational management procedures, including monitoring, SLA reporting, and capacity planning.

  • Define and implement infrastructure level architecture for the hosting environment.

  • Translate operational governance objectives into actionable technical processes.

  • Act as technical consultant on complex application hosting projects.

  • Design and implement solutions to increase capacity/availability of application hosting infrastructure, minimize operational support costs of systems, and increase operational efficiencies.

  • Responsible for defining operational metrics to Technical Services.

  • Lead technical projects related to the hosting environment.

  • Responsible for training and mentoring team members.

  • Provides architectural recommendations on support product/vendor selections.

  • Operates under minimal supervision.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Knowledge of hosting systems and support processes including SharePoint, IIS, WebLogic and Windows 2012 and 2016.

  • Knowledge of related support processes especially name resolution, networking protocols, firewalls, and load-balancing technologies.

  • Working knowledge across a broad range of technologies including Windows Server 2012 and 2016, VMWare, SAN storage, Microsoft SQL server, .NET framework, XML, HTML, IIS, DNS, and Active Directory.

  • Previous experience in hosting high-volume customer-facing applications.

  • Bachelor or Masters Degree in Computer Science, MIS, or equivalent experience preferred.

  • 3+ years hands-on experience administering Windows OS and Unix/Linux

  • 3+ years hands-on experience administering SharePoint 2010, 2013 or 2016

  • 2+ years experience with backup/recovery and disaster recovery using both native features and third party products.

  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.

  • Must have demonstrated past experience in the following competencies: problem solving, action oriented, customer focused, informing others, learning on the fly, motivating others, organizing, and setting priorities.

  • Ability to execute within aggressive project timelines.

  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Organizational Relationship:

  • This position reports to Team Lead, Technical Application Hosting.

  • Team Lead, Technical Application Hosting reports to Manager, Server Application Hosting and Support.

  • Manager, Server Application Hosting and Support reports to Senior Manager, Technical Application Services


  • Limited travel is required for this position.
