The Manufacturing Excellence Group Leader is responsible for developing strategies and execution of deliberate and continuous improvement projects that contribute to mill 3% YOY cost improvement, developing ME talent and associated benchmarking and reporting to measure success. This position reports to the Manager, Manufacturing Excellence.

Key Accountabilities

  • Insure Systems & Utilities Area Realizable and Apparent Gaps are known and reported consistently. Educate Area leaders and workforce on these gaps to identify new improvement opportunities

  • Populate the improvement idea database insuring that new ideas are captured, defined, evaluated and prioritized for execution and incorporated in the Mill and Departmental Strategy Deployment and Strategic Plan

  • Annual responsibility for portion of 3% YOY cost improvements budgeted for the Systems & Utilities Area.

  • Determine best opportunities in Systems & Utilities Areas to improve variance to budget, reduce cost and increase EBIT

  • Manage ME resources including REACH engineers in the System & Utilities Area. Regular reviews for DI projects and report out of progress and results. Work with business unit manager to prioritize DI projects and assign projects to ME trained resources to execute.

  • Promoting and utilizing DMAIC, Six-Sigma, Lean Manufacturing principles

  • Educate and Train leaders, employees and ME resources in ME skills. Train and certify White and Yellow belts. Coach/Mentor Green Belts seeking certification.

  • Analyze and report Constrained Area Downtime for the System & Utilities and External Areas

  • Develop and maintain reporting scorecards

  • Documenting changes utilizing the Management of Change (MOC) database

Key Knowledge and Experience

  • 4+ Years Manufacturing Experience required; Area Process Manager (APM) or Operations Maintenance Coordinator (OMC) experience a plus

  • Proficiency in math and statistics

  • Proficiency with computers including Microsoft Office software

  • Green Belt certification a plus, will be required to complete GB certification if not certified

  • Experience with Problem Solving Techniques including RCFA, Kaizen, Kepner-Tregoe is preferred

  • Knowledge and experience of 5S, Best Practice Database, Centerlining, Data Analysis, IAPs, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping, Plan-Do-Check-Act, R-Gap/A-Gap Process, Six Sigma and Trouble Cause Correction is preferred
