Description:

This position is responsible for managing the Quality aspect of Rome’s products and mill production labs. The Quality Engineer works with IP Customer Technical Service (CTS), customers internal and external, and Rome Mill personnel to communicate roll quality issues, discover root causes of complaints, and implement solutions. This position is responsible for the management of all laboratory units. Successful candidates must be able to utilize technical knowledge to assist the business units in identifying and/or establishing product strategy and maintaining knowledge of strategic customer's operational practices and quality expectations. This position reports to the Quality Manager.

Examples of Areas of Responsibilities:

  • Promote and support a safe and engaging culture

  • Ensure test equipment accuracy/reliability, and manage routine calibrations and round robins

  • Standardization and auditing of lab procedures.

  • Responds and investigate customer complaints and/or concerns, coordinate visits and will be the direct link with all CTS managers on field issues.

  • Specifications/Trials/Quality- Ensures accurate specifications across mills systems, coordinates trials in the mill, and responsible for the quality of roll stock leaving the mill.

  • Must have a strong relationship with Finished Products and Shipping management team, help disposition non A-1 roll stock, and give direction to the Finished Product/Shipping team on any or all issues.

  • Complaint and credit statistics reporting, month end quality reports, project department monetary needs

  • Mill Site Chain of Custody representative

  • Assist with additional duties as required

Qualifications:

Qualified candidates should possess a minimum of five years paper industry experience. Candidates should have at least one year of previous supervisory experience, with paper machine, customer service or process engineering experience preferred.
