The Savannah Mill is currently seeking a qualified Process Control Supervisor. The Savannah Mill is located in Savannah, GA which is approximately 1-hour south of Hilton Head, SC and 2 hours north of Jacksonville, FL. The mill has approximately 650 employees and is a union facility represented by five international unions.

Reporting to the Reliability and Capital Manager, this position is responsible for fostering the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the Savannah Mill through appropriate control systems. Control systems are broadly defined to include any closed loop control device independent of technology including but not limited to: DCS, PLC, QCS, Drives, Turbine Generator Control, individual PID controllers and associated network, sensors/actuators. Provide stewardship for all Savannah mill control systems, including strategic/tactical planning, design, implementation, changes/upgrades, and obsolesce management and support.

Key Accountabilities:

Ensure the safe and stable operation of mill control systems by:

  • Providing systems that are inherently and appropriately robust in light of their impact on the mill safety, environmental impact, and production.

  • Providing effective support processes for control systems within the mill.

  • Providing leadership role in directing the mill’s Instrument Precision Maintenance process. (IEPM)

Process Optimization:

  • Close collaboration with Operations to optimize the process to reduce cost, reduce variability, and improve reliability.

  • Collaborate with Process Engineers and outside suppliers to ensure compatible total process/control system design details optimize the total system and to avoid inconsistencies.

  • Collaborate with Information technology to ensure well-functioning control/business system interfaces.

Project Management:

  • Provide Project management support,directly or through subordinates, for all control systems projects, encompassing the complete project life cycle including the opportunity identification, evaluation/analysis, design standards, check-out and commissioning.

  • Provide leadership, directly or through subordinates, of the control aspects of other mill projects.

Staff Management:

  • Provide management, training, coaching, feedback, work prioritization and leadership to mill control engineer and contractors.

  • Ensure appropriate training, feedback and leadership to all other mill employees engaged in control systems work, including Process Engineers, and E&I personnel.

Understand future business direction and needs and anticipate strategic control systems technology capabilities required to support that direction and need by staying abreast of mill/sector business direction; mill strategy and processes improvement opportunities; control system technology; and leveraging corporate technical resources. Develop and implement a strategic plan that integrates control system technology across the entire mill.

Qualifications:

Required

  • BS Engineering; Chemical, Pulp & Paper, or Electrical focus preferred.

  • Minimum 8 years Process Control Engineering experience.

  • Minimum 3 years experience managing professionals.

  • Participated in Major Control Capital investment with budgets over $1M.

  • Hands-on programming and system trouble-shooting.

  • Process Control experience with:

  • DCS configuration and management

  • Historian configuration and management

  • Familiarity with advanced controls such as MPC

  • Familiarity with safety systems and practices

  • Network experience with typical industrial Ethernet applications

  • Familiarity with industrial instrumentation and electrical practices

  • Demonstrated Leadership Ability

Preferred

  • Experience with Honeywell TDC-3000/Experion, ABB 800XA, and AB PLC

  • 12 years Process Control Engineering experience

  • 5 years experience managing professionals

  • Pulp & Paper manufacturing Industry experience
