Responsible for performing the tasks associated with supporting the Mill Information Systems. This analyst will work in a self-directed role providing development support of new applications and enhancements/maintenance of existing applications.

This position provides business and operational support for information technology solutions utilizing mill information systems & assets with a primary focus on continuous improvement of paper production quality and manufacturing cost optimization. The analyst will be responsible for support, and implementation of new and existing enterprise/business/operational applications. The analyst is expected to execute key tasks within a project plan and communicate/coordinate changes to all involved parties. Key customers include plant operators and supervisors, technical and business groups, and mill management.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Development / support / administration of user applications as required in accordance to corporate standards

  • Development / support of user applications as required across multiple mills by region.

  • Hands on point person for corporate IT/outside contractors for mill initiatives / support.

  • Responsive to off-hour support requirements.

  • Participate in recommendations and implement system improvements.

  • Maintain systems documentation.

  • Support disaster recovery plans for mill IT Systems.

Stay on top of changes in technology. Keep up with security issues related to computer virus.

Will be required to spend time in the manufacturing environment and work around schedules when implementing and/or maintaining systems. Need to be sensitive to general computer competency levels of end users. Additional time is generally needed for “hand holding” of end users on new applications that ordinarily would not be required.


The work environment is a mill operation with various unit operations enabled by multiple applications (60+ per site). The applications enable operations 24 X7 X365. Support also includes Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity Plans for key mill processes. Perform updates and maintenance of Mill IT applications as directed by ITSS.

Technical Competencies:

  • Knowledge of mill systems and the plant floor integration aspect

  • Experience in web/windows applications support for mills

  • Server administration of OSI Soft PI, Mountain Systems Proficy and other related tools

  • Strong background in Personal Computer/Server hardware and software platforms

    Be able to perform Proficy Administration tasks:
  • Start and restart services - Browse the plant model and view data through the administrator

  • View and interpret log files - Modify displays

  • Administer Proficy user accounts - Change and maintain product specifications

  • Reload services from a point in time - Reload variables for a time range

Be able to perform PI Administration tasks:

  • Know which interfaces are installed, where they run, and how to restart them

  • Know how to verify that data is being received from the field

  • Know how to decipher logic in performance equations

  • Know how to create and maintain PI tag configuration

Be able to perform first level support of SQL Server:

  • Know how to view and examine SQL log files

  • Understand how to verify backups and transaction log truncation

  • Know how to monitor database growth

  • Be the on-site hands-on support for DB Services for troubleshooting SQL issues

To support the MACT Environmental monitoring application:

  • Know how to install and configure the MACT Reporting client application

  • Know how to use the MACT Reporting system to schedule, print, and maintain daily reports

  • Know how to view the administrative displays

  • Understand the purpose and function of the various installed Watchdog monitors that insure good data collection

  • Know how to leverage the Watchdog events to maintain accurate data collection

Application Analyst for mill site reports to MEAS regional team lead.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science Information Systems or other related field preferred.
