International Paper Converting Supervisor in THOROFARE RETAIL, New Jersey

Background: This position is a part of Retail Packaging and Display/North American Container business and reports to the Converting Manager in our Thorofare, NJ, facility. This is a full time exempt position and may be assigned to either 2nd shift or 3rd shift. The Converting Supervisor provides leadership and coordinates daily activities of the Converting Department in a fast-paced specialty packaging and display plant.

Key Functions: Implement and coordinate departmental safety processes and training to ensure a safe work environment. Develop employees through training and conduct written evaluations utilizing effective 1-on-1’s and performance feedback. Participate in selection of new employees. Participate in machine center goal setting/benchmarking processes; improve and maintain department performance according to set objectives and established goals including safety, quality, waste reduction, housekeeping and productivity. Identify mechanical problems and coordinate necessary maintenance activities on the various converting machines. Recommend and implement reliable methods for improving department procedures according to customer and quality process requirements. Resolve problems and ensures open communication; actively supports positive employee and labor relations in a union environment. Provide leadership for regular team meetings and facilitate proactive problem solving processes. Provide accurate and timely production reporting. Ensure compliance with all applicable International Paper, federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Communicate with prior and next shift supervisor on a daily basis.

Requirements: Knowledge of corrugated and converting manufacturing processes. Strong participative leadership skills; effective planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills; proven supervisory skills. Demonstrated ability to conduct and facilitate effective meetings. Strong verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and computer skills. Must exhibit a high regard for safe use and condition of equipment. Ability and willingness to work an off-shift, extended hours, or weekends as required. A positive attitude is required. College degree, formal education, or equivalent experience preferred.
